Another advantage for events at the Banks: a decent use for the transit center
Issue 2 is an attempt to stave off draconian legislation that the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has passed in other states with devastating effects on those state’s agricultural industries.
Primarily they are looking at how egg laying chickens and pregnant sows are housed. In Ohio, pork and eggs are huge businesses. Ohio is, like 3rd in egg production in the US.
HSUS, which has nothing to do with local humane societies, counts on promoting their cause to “city slickers” who know nothing of farm practices. In Ohio this would mean people in Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland would be hit with a barrage of “worst practices” stories and pictures in an attempt to sway their emotions.
When I researched this I found one guy complaining of his chickens getting killed and mauled by weasels because he couldn’t afford the kind of container HSUS wants to mandate for layers. How many people in Ohio’s 3 big cities would even dream of weasel attacks ?
I wrote a whole article here:

There will be more to come. I don’t think this panel that Issue 2 would create is necessary, but a bigger battle could be coming.
Quimbob – Thanks for the information on Issue 2. Hopefully we can get into it in more depth at some point before the election.
